When landscaping with bamboo, you will need to consider which type best meet your needs. Bamboo plants have different uses. You may want to create a bamboo garden, complement existing landscaping, create a privacy hedge from neighboring property or display bamboo at your home. We are happy to consult and recommend a type of bamboo that will be perfect for your needs.
Q: Clumping vs Running
Bamboo is classified by its root system. There are two basic types, running bamboo and clumping bamboo. Clumping bamboo is easily contained and are considered non-invasive. Clumping bamboo can grow densely with both canes and foliage and is a good choice for privacy hedging. Running bamboo can be difficult to control and is considered invasive. This is the only type of bamboo that predominantly grows outdoors in northern climates. Running bamboo can spread up to several yards during a growing season.
